With the 2024 Formula 1 season drawing ever closer, McLaren CEO Zak Brown claims his driver pairing of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri is the best on the F1 grid.
While Ferrari boast Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, Mercedes count on seven-time champion Lewis Hamilon and George Russell, while constructors champions Red Bull have Max Verstappen and Checo Perez in their ranks, Brown is more than happy with his drivers.
“To your earlier of kind of building blocks, you need the world’s two greatest Grand Prix drivers and I think we have the best driver line-up in Formula 1,” Brown told Sky Sports F1.
“We do have a little bit more runway with both, but certainly he [Norris] is hot property, so we’d like to lock him down sooner rather than later. I think he’s very much enjoying his time at McLaren and our dream is to win races and a world championship together.
“And I think Lando is all in for achieving that with us. He’s a great asset to the racing team.”
Norris and Piastri’s McLaren relationship
One point of note is that both Norris and Piastri have a good working relationship, which is helping the team to move forward and up the F1 grid.
“The relationship between Lando and Oscar, I think is a point of strength of our team,” McLaren team principal Andrea Stella told the press. “I have to say that being Lando’s teammate is enjoyable because we are seeing this kind of relationship already with Carlos [Sainz] and with Daniel [Ricciardo].
“And therefore I would like to recognise and acknowledge how much Lando creates the condition for establishing a fruitful kind of relationship that support the team support the growth of both drivers.
“Then we got Oscar and he came with similar characteristics. So with the natural process of knowing each other gradually, we can see that now this has created a very, very functional collaboration between the two drivers.”
