Kevin Magnussen will be sidelined after reaching 12 points on his super license but who is set to replace the Dane at Haas for the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix?
Magnussen has been ruled out of the upcoming race in Baku after being penalised for his collision with Pierre Gasly during the recent Italian GP.
The incident resulted in a 10-second penalty, dropping Magnussen from ninth to tenth place. Additionally, he received a two-point penalty on his super license, bringing his total to 12 points, which automatically triggers a one-race suspension.
“Frustrated about the penalty. I don’t understand it at all,” Magnussen told Sky Sports F1 at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza. “Flat out, just completely confused.
“Me and Gasly raced hard into turn four, we had slight contact, we both missed the corner, then came back on track again, no damage to either car, and no consequence to the race of either of us.
“But I get a 10-second penalty. Then, on Lap 1, [Daniel] Ricciardo and Nico [Hulkenberg], Ricciardo put Nico in the grass at 300 kilometres an hour.

“Completely destroyed Nico’s race, massive consequence and damage to Nico’s car. But he gets a five-second penalty. Where’s the logic? I just don’t get it.”

Bearman Poised to Replace Magnussen
Haas have not yet made an official announcement regarding who will replace Magnussen for the Azerbaijan GP, but all signs point to Oliver Bearman taking over in Baku.
Bearman is already set to drive for Haas in 2025, making him the logical choice for this temporary fill-in role.
Additionally, Bearman has already made his F1 debut this year, driving for Ferrari in Saudi Arabia, where he substituted for Carlos Sainz and secured a seventh-place finish, earning six points.
Bearman is also a reserve driver for Haas, along with Pietro Fittipaldi, and has recently gained momentum by winning an F2 race in Monza, effectively salvaging what had been a challenging season in that category.
Bearman’s upcoming opportunity in Baku could be crucial for both his career and Haas as the team looks to prepare for the 2025 season.
With Magnussen sidelined, all eyes will be on Bearman as he takes the wheel, aiming to make the most of this unexpected chance.
