George Russell shook things up at the start with a stunning move to take the lead at Turn 1, but the Mercedes had no answer for Verstappen who was in second after jumping Norris at the start.

From there, Verstappen was unassailable after Norris was held up behind Russell in the first stint which allowed the Red Bull driver to race off into the distance.

Verstappen a class apart

The race saw Verstappen taking the lead early on Lap 3. MercedesGeorge Russell, who had an impressive start from fourth, initially led the race.

However, Verstappen swiftly overtook Russell with a decisive move at Turn 1. Verstappen, who seemed displeased with Norris for squeezing him at the start, settled into his rhythm and gradually asserted his dominance.

Norris, found himself stuck behind Russell in the crucial early stages, which ultimately cost him valuable time in the fight for the lead. Despite his best efforts, Norris could not close the gap on Verstappen, especially after a slow 3.6-second second pit stop further hampered his chances.

Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes had a standout performance, securing his first podium of the season by finishing third. His race included dramatic on-track battles with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, who finished in sixth place. Russell completed the race in fourth, despite struggling with his hard tyres in the final stint.

Ferrari‘s Charles Leclerc and Sainz finished in fifth and sixth positions respectively, unable to mount a significant challenge on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Alpine had a strong showing with Pierre Gasly finishing ninth and Esteban Ocon securing 10th place, making it a double points finish for the team.

Sergio Perez, starting from 11th due to a grid penalty, managed to recover to eighth place after overtaking Gasly late in the race. The Haas of Nico Hulkenberg finished 11th, hindered by a five-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane. Fernando Alonso‘s challenging weekend ended with a 12th-place finish for Aston Martin.

Other notable finishes included Zhou Guanyu in 13th, Lance Stroll in 14th, and Daniel Ricciardo in 15th. Yuki Tsunoda finished in 19th, while the Williams of Logan Sargeant rounded out the grid in 20th.
