Maserati driver Max Gunther was victorious at the 2024 Tokyo E-Prix

Maserati MSG Racing’s Maximilian Gunther emerged victorious at the electrifying inaugural 2024 Formula E Tokyo E-Prix, marking the fifth different winner in the series’ first five races of the season.

The race to the finish line was intense and strategic, with Gunther overcoming polesitter Oliver Rowland from Nissan in a nail-biting contest. Gunther, leveraging a mix of tactical prowess and energy conservation, made his decisive move on Lap 24, taking the lead from Rowland, who struggled with energy management as the race neared its end.

Rowland tried valiantly to reclaim the lead, especially on the thrilling final lap. However, Gunther exhibited supreme defensive driving to thwart Rowland’s attempts and secure the win and Maserati’s first since their success in Jakarta during Season 9.

Jake Dennis, the reigning champion racing for Andretti, managed to secure a third-place finish after engaging in a gripping contest with Antonio Felix da Costa, who ended the race in fourth place.

Moreover, the race saw commendable performances from Nico Mueller and Nick Cassidy, with Mueller taking sixth place and Cassidy fighting his way from 19th to seventh. The race was not without its controversies, as Edo Mortara was disqualified for exceeding the energy use limit.
