Red Bull hired psychologist to help with Tsunoda’s temper

Labelled a problem child by Helmut Marko, Red Bull have taken steps to curb Yuki Tsunoda's expletive-ridden radio outbursts

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko says the team has paired Yuki Tsunoda with a psychologist in an attempt to get the young AlphaTauri driver’s fiery temper under control.

The Japanese driver struggled during his debut season at AlphaTauri in 2021, with the team ultimately relocating him closer to their Faenza factory in an attempt to help matters.

Although Tsunoda‘s form has improved in 2022, having scored 11 points compared to teammate Pierre Gasly‘s 16 so far, he didn’t do himself any favours with his performance at Silverstone.

The youngster fumed after colliding with Gasly, and after being handed a penalty and picking up two penalty points, he apologized for the incident.

As a result, Marko told Servus TV the team have hired a psychologist to work with what he called his “problem child”, given his temper is ultimately costing him performance.

“We have organised a kind of psychologist to work with him, because he continued to rant in the corners, so that inhibits performance,” Marko said.

“We should keep our emotions in check. Thank God Max [Verstappen] is calm, our problem child in this respect, not only in this respect, is Tsunoda. He explodes on the radio, you wouldn’t believe it.”

Tsunoda already focused on Austria

With F1 travelling to Red Bull‘s home race for the Austrian Grand Prix this weekend, Tsunoda said he’s excited to move forward from the incident at Silverstone.

“I am glad that we can go racing again after just a few days to put the Silverstone race behind us,” he said.

“I couldn’t do anything about the collision after the start and later unfortunately I had the incident with Pierre. We discussed it as a team and now we move forward.”
