Oscar Piastri credits F1 after Las Vegas GP opening ceremony

Ahead of the 2023 Las Vegas GP, the F1 drivers were paraded to the fans

Oscar Piastri says that the drivers are being listened to by Formula 1 and the FIA when it comes to off-track obligations, despite the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix opening ceremony and general razzmatazz being criticised by drivers.

Formula 1 was in the iconic Nevada city ahead of a high-anticipated, and highly-hyped, race around some of the most iconic landmarks in the world.

The sport is pulling out all of the stops to try and deliver the best ‘show’ possible – and an opening ceremony took place on the start/finish straight on Wednesday night, with drivers presented on podiums in front of the grandstands.

“I think we have [been listened too,] but I think they have definitely listened to us on those kind of things,” Piastri said to the press.

“I’ve had other sports people saying they’ve been quite shocked at how much access we give immediately before the race, and I think we’ve just been cautious that we don’t over do it because at the end of the day we have to go out there and perform.

“And if we get it wrong in our sport it can have very big consequence so being wary of that is very important and F1 and the FIA have been receptive to that.”

The opening ceremony was accompanied by a host of music stars and a drone show, to kick off the weekend’s action in Las Vegas.

Kylie Minogue, Will.I.Am, and Thirty Seconds To Mars were all in attendance, whilst the drivers were presented for about a minute or so during the event on podiums.

It was certainly a spectacular watch, whilst the drivers will hope that they are now able to focus firmly on the on-track action which gets underway with FP1 at 8:30pm local time.

As for pre-race, a driver introduction akin to Miami is expected, but on a dialled down footing compared to the one in Florida.
