Bearman reveals old Lewis Hamilton motivational video message as British pair line up on F1 2025 grid together

Oliver Bearman has signed a multi-year deal with Haas and will join the F1 grid in 2025, going up against the likes of Lewis Hamilton in the Ferrari

After being announced as a Formula 1 driver for the 2025 season with Haas, Oliver Bearman revealed that he received a video message from Lewis Hamilton back in 2015 which inspired him on his journey to the pinnacle of motorsport.

Bearman has signed a multi-year deal with Haas for 2025 onwards after impressing during his FP1 tests with the American team, as well as his last-minute substitute appearance for Carlos Sainz at the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix for Ferrari where he finished seventh, and became the third-youngest driver in F1 history.

This season, the 19-year-old from Chelmsford is competing in the Formula 2 Championship for Prema Racing, where he recently clinched his first win of the 2024 season in Austria.

“I hope I’m against him [Hamilton],” Bearman told the press, including, when asked about racing against the Mercedes driver in 2025. “That means we did a good job. It’s crazy.

“Actually, I was looking back, I received a video from him [Hamilton] in like 2015 or 2016. saying like, ‘keep pushing, hopefully you can make it F1 one day’. And here I am.

“It’s crazy to share the track with these guys who I’ve watched racing, even Fernando [Alonso]. It’s something pretty special. It’s a pinch yourself moment because these guys are, in my eyes, huge stars and someone that I look up to, and it’s quite amazing that I’ll share the circuit with them.

How did the Hamilton video come about?

On the Hamilton video, Bearman revealed how it actually happened, as at the time he was competing in the Super One National Kart Championships as a 10-year-old.

“I think he met one of my mum’s friends or something like this. And she got him to make a video,” Bearman revealed.

“It was like the most amazing day of my life and then I just actually got reminded of it yesterday. I saw the video again and it was a funny moment.”

Bearman will likely be paired with Esteban Ocon at Haas in 2025, with Nico Hulkenberg’s departure for Sauber already confirmed, and Kevin Magnussen’s future expected to be decided soon.
