Mike Krack still hesitant over Aston Martin pace

Fernando Alonso has brought back two podiums in two races for the British manufacturer.

Aston Martin team principal, Mike Krack, is still cautious to predict anything in Formula 1 despite his team’s great start to 2023.

Fernando Alonso has already secured two podium finishes in his first two races with the team in what is a drastically improved car from where it was 12 months ago. Lance Stroll, meanwhile, secured good points in Bahrain before having to retire from the race in Saudi Arabia.

Krack, however, did not want to try and predict where his car would be in Australia or in general overall with a lot of races still to go in 2023.

“I think we still need to be careful with making predictions,” Krack told the media ahead of the Australian Grand Prix.

“The competitors are very, very close except one which is quite far away but we need to keep our heads down and we need to give 100 per cent at all times to be able to maintain this position.”

Stroll fitness update

Stroll has been driving with a hand and foot injury so far this season after a training accident which saw him miss the pre-season test in Bahrain.

The Canadian is still not entirely at 100 per cent but he has not let that prevent him from putting in some impressive performances given the circumstances.

Krack admitted to the media that Stroll is still feeling the effects of the hand injuries following his cycling crash but also made a point of how well he has been doing given the circumstances he finds himself in.

“I spoke to him yesterday and he’s obviously better because having 14 days off helps,” Krack continued. “He’s not quite at 100 per cent yet.

“But when you see what he did in Bahrain and Jeddah, I’m quite confident that it will not be a huge problem for him.”
