Max Verstappen of Red Bull was the class of the field in an interrupted Free Practice 1 session at the 2024 Miami Grand Prix setting the fastest time just 0.105s ahead of Oscar Piastri in the McLaren. Here are the full results from FP1 at the Miami GP.
Just 10 minutes into the session Charles Leclerc spun at Turn 16, ended up facing the wrong direction, and tried to do a three-point turn before his Ferrari overheated which caused his clutch to fail. That brought out the red flag.
When the session resumed, Carlos Sainz initially led, clocking 1m 29.346s on hard tyres, ahead of Sergio Perez and Lewis Hamilton. However, Max Verstappen, recovering from an earlier mishap at Turn 17, ultimately set the fastest lap of 1m 28.595s on soft tyres, securing the top spot.
George Russell, the quickest Mercedes driver, finished fourth, followed by Lance Stroll in an Aston Martin and Perez in another Red Bull. Yuki Tsunoda and the Alpines of Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly completed the top ten.
