McLaren reveal new car livery for 2024 F1 season

The Woking-based outfit unveiled a striking new look ahead of the 2024 F1 season.

McLaren have revealed the first new livery ahead of the 2024 F1 season with a striking new look.

The team rallied from a tough start to the 2023 season to climb up the grid by the end of the year, running second fastest in parts behind the dominant champions Red Bull and Max Verstappen and ultimately finishing fourth in the Constructors’ Championship.

And looking forward to 2024, they will be looking to take another step forward and bring a more consistent challenge to the chasing pack alongside Ferrari and Mercedes, as the grid seeks to close the gap to Red Bull out front.

The look for the new car for this season, the MCL38, takes some inspiration from the team’s special ‘stealth mode’ livery used at the Singapore GP in 2023, with the signature McLaren papaya mixed with elements of black.

It also pays homage to the team’s classic liveries from the mid 2000s with a chrome element for the drivers’ numbers, following on from the special chrome livery used during last year’s British GP.

Carrying momentum

McLaren driver Lando Norris was one of the standout performers of the second half of 2023, managing to climb up to finish sixth in the Drivers’ Championship standings, and the Brit said he was excited to keep on improving as the team look ahead to 2024.

“I’m looking forward to the new season ahead, it will be my sixth in Formula 1 and I’m hoping to carry the momentum we gained as a team at the end of last season to hit the ground running in Bahrain,” Norris said in a statement.

“The new livery looks great with the inclusion of segments from last year’s enhancements, I’m sure the fans will love it as much as me.

“Everyone at the factory has worked incredibly hard in the off season, and I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of the 2024 car to challenge our competitors towards the front of the grid.”

Norris’ teammate Oscar Piastri, who impressed in his rookie season in the sport, also praised the team’s new look and expressed his determination to take more steps forward this year.

“The 2024 livery looks really cool and I’m looking forward to racing in the iconic colours of McLaren for a second season. I made some special memories with the team in my rookie year, securing two podiums and a Sprint win,” Piastri said.

“I‘m going to work hard alongside the whole team to take those results into the start of the new season and compete well with our competitors to give the fans more memorable moments.”
