The unveiling of the McLaren chrome livery for the 2025 British Grand Prix has put the spotlight firmly on the Papaya team as they gear up for their biggest race of the season.
The bold new look, titled “Legacy at Speed,” marks the third consecutive year McLaren has revived chrome for Silverstone, a nod to their celebrated mid-2000s era and a dynamic partnership with Google Chrome.
Fans got their first glimpse of the special livery at the McLaren Racing Live: London event in Trafalgar Square, where the new design drew enthusiastic applause from a packed crowd.
The chrome finish covers the flanks, nose, intake, and rear of the MCL39, creating a dazzling tribute that seamlessly blends nostalgia and cutting-edge style. Drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will take to the track in matching black race suits with distinctive chrome driver numbers, completing the statement look.

Bridging Past and Present for a New Era of McLaren Fans
The reveal comes at a critical moment for McLaren. Chief marketing officer Louise McEwen spoke about the significance of the livery, saying, “We know that, while we have millions of fans who have been with the McLaren Formula 1 Team for decades, there are millions more who are new to the sport and the team.
“Being able to celebrate and showcase our long history with the help of Chrome is a fantastic way of bringing these newer fans on the journey with us. To celebrate with so many of our fans in London this week as we get ready for our home race makes it even more special!”

Google Chrome has played a central role in this collaboration, with vice president Adrienne Lofton adding, “Google Chrome is proud to join McLaren for McLaren Racing Live: London at Trafalgar Square to reveal the iconic Chrome livery.
“Google Chrome provides unparalleled speed and performance to McLaren and consumers worldwide. We’re excited to help bring the paddock energy to fans in advance of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.”
The livery’s launch was supported by a social and digital campaign, connecting global fans to the team’s legacy and the speed that has defined McLaren both on the track and online.

Norris Eyes Silverstone Win with Chrome Boost
For Lando Norris, this home race carries added weight. After a stellar drive in Austria, he is looking to turn his recent momentum into a victory at Silverstone, cheered on by a passionate British crowd.
Norris finished second at Silverstone in 2023 and took third in 2024, but this time, he’s targeting the top step—an achievement that would narrow his gap to championship leader Oscar Piastri to just eight points.
With both drivers in strong form, a McLaren 1-2 at their home event is a real possibility. The iconic chrome livery not only brings a dose of nostalgia but also serves as a rallying point for fans, old and new, as the team bids for another chapter of Silverstone history.
