F1 Miami GP 2025 Qualifying LIVE: Latest Updates

Verstappen reacts to F1 2025 Miami GP pole

Three pole positions in the F1 2025 season for Max Verstappen as he bags his latest one at the Miami GP on the weekend Red Bull bring a floor upgrade.

It wasn’t quite perfect, but it was good enough as he fended off McLaren’s Lando Norris, so how does the four-time champion reflect on his lap?

“It’s been a great qualifying,” Verstappen told F1 TV. “We improved the car a tiny amount as well, which helped me to basically rotate it a bit better.

More from the Singapore GP

Catch up with Total Motorsport's latest Singapore GP coverage, including Max Verstappen's victory at Marina Bay, Ferrari's costly strategy gamble, the full race classification, and the updated 2026 Formula 1 Drivers' and Constructors' Championship standings.

“Honestly, Q1, Q2, Q3, just improving every run really, trying to find a bit more the limit. I had a tiny moment on my final lap into Turn 1, so I lost a bit of time there. But around here it’s just very complicated with the tyres over a lap.

“But in the end it worked out well, so I’m very happy to be on pole. I mean you can back out of it, but it’s qualifying so you have to try and correct it, and just floor it out of the corner.”

Norris reflects on Q3 errors

It was another weekend when pole position slipped away from Lando Norris as he missed out on pipping Max Verstappen by just 0.065 in Miami.

A lock-up on his first attempt in Q3 saw him lose valuable time, whilst he took too much kerb and no doubt bled away even more speed in what seemed to be the best car again.

So what does Norris make of his afternoon?

“I’m happy with today, happy with the progress I’ve made with the car,” Norris told F1 TV. “Max did a Max lap once again and I can’t fault him. I’m happy and excited for tomorrow.

“It’s all should’ve, could’ve, would’ve stuff. I didn’t deliver but the pace was there. The car has been feeling good, better than I have done the last few weekends.

“I’ve still not put it together but it is what it is. I’m ready to see what we can do into Turn 1 tomorrow. I don’t mind if it’s dry or wet but Miami has been surprising with the weather so I’m ready for both.”

Kimi Antonelli delivers another strong lap

Kimi Antonelli is delivering his most complete weekend in Formula 1, and bounced back from his Sprint Race disappointment in very fine fashion.

The Italian puts a tenth on George Russell on the Mercedes battle to sweep qualifying in the Silver Arrows’ battle. How does he feel about it?

“This weekend is going well so far,” Antonelli told F1 TV. “It was a bit disappointing this morning but it was good to bounce back this way.

“I struggled a little bit during the qualy, I didn’t have such a clean run like I had yesterday. But that last lap was quite good. I was a bit too greedy in Turn 1, but the rest of the lap was quite good, so I’m happy with it.

“The gaps are super tight, and definitely, if you can gain just a few hundredths, you can make up so many places. It’s really about putting everything together and so far this weekend, I’m doing that. Hopefully tomorrow we can have a good race.”

MAX VERSTAPPEN TAKES POLE FOR THE F1 2025 MIAMI GP

Consistency is key for Max Verstappen as the Red Bull driver manages to find extra time at the Miami International Autodrome for the F1 2025 Miami GP to snag pole position ahead of McLaren’s Lando Norris and Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli.

His 1:26.204 pipped his British rival for the title by just 0.055 and gives him the advantage heading into Sunday’s race after Norris made two consecutive errors on his push laps.

The saving grace for Norris? Oscar Piastri is fourth in Florida but all eyes look to the Dutchman, the defending world champion, as he seals his third pole position of the season just one day after becoming a father to Lily Verstappen-Piquet.

What a great week for the 27-year-old, can he sign it off with a win?

Second runs due up: Who takes pole?

There are four minutes left on the clock and up to five drivers competing for pole in Florida, so who’s going to emerge as the winner?

Max Verstappen currently holds the advantage. Can the Dutchman take his third pole of the year on the weekend he became a father?

First runs complete: Max Verstappen on provisional pole

Max Verstappen posts a 1:26.492 to take provisional pole for the F1 2025 Miami GP ahead of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, who are right close behind.

Norris locked-up in the McLaren and is just 0.003 off, and Piastri is 0.017 back in the other papaya car.

Elsewhere, George Russell made a mistake on his lap too suggesting Mercedes could also get in on the act.

There’s one more run left, who takes pole?

Q3 begins: Who will take pole for the F1 2025 Miami Grand Prix?

We have 10 cars remaining and one pole position spot, so who will claim it at the F1 2025 Miami GP in Florida?

Oscar Piastri has to be the favourite. He’s been quick all weekend and didn’t use an extra set of tyres for his final Q2 run, so he should have an extra set in reserve.

Challenges will come from Lando Norris, both Mercedes cars and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. Will the Australian fend them off?

Out in Q2: Liam Lawson (RB; 15th), Jack Doohan (Alpine), Gabriel Bortoleto (Sauber), Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari) and Isack Hadjar (RB).

Lewis Hamilton OUT of qualifying at the F1 2025 Miami GP

Lewis Hamilton suffers his first Q2 exit of the season for Ferrari at the F1 2025 Miami GP after a lock-up cost the 40-year-old the valuable time he was looking for to sneak through.

If the AWS data is right, he lost 0.139 with that error and it would have easily put him through to Q3. Alas, he didn’t and he will be starting Sunday’s race from 12th on the grid.

Out in Q2: Liam Lawson (RB; 15th), Jack Doohan (Alpine), Gabriel Bortoleto (Sauber), Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari) and Isack Hadjar (RB).

Six minutes to go: Piastri leads times, but who is in danger?

Oscar Piastri posts a 1:26.269 to lead the times by 0.230 from Lando Norris and 0.337 from Kimi Antonelli in third. It’s a great lap from the McLaren and it’s already quicker than the Sprint Qualifying time from Friday.

But eyes turn to the bottom of the running order as the final laps come up. Who is in danger of missing out on a shot at pole position in Miami?

Isack Hadjar (RB; 15th), Liam Lawson (RB), Jack Doohan (Alpine), Esteban Ocon (Haas) and George Russell (Mercedes) have it all to do now.

Eight minutes to go: George Russell struggling

George Russell finds himself on the backfoot in qualifying for the first time this season, only able to go 11th fastest on his first run as he bemoans a lap of grip on his Mercedes.

He’s currently around half a second behind Kimi Antonelli, his rookie teammate. Based on Sprint Qualifying, it isn’t just a bad day at the office either.

The Brit needs to find a lot of time if he wants to keep his dwindling championship title odds alive come the chequered flag on Sunday evening.

10 minutes to go: Great pace from Williams

Williams are looking quick today as Alex Albon goes fifth and Carlos Sainz slots in just behind in sixth. They’re ahead of the Ferraris as things stand, and Yuki Tsunoda too.

Can they pull off a famous day under the Floridian sun? James Vowles will have his fingers crossed.

It could be a huge result for their season ambitions.

Q2 begins in Florida

The drivers are back on track and five fewer in number as Q2 begins in qualifying for the F1 2025 Miami GP. They have 14 minutes to get their best times on the board now.

The five slowest will be suffering the same fate as Oliver Bearman (Haas; 20th), Lance Stroll (Aston Martin), Pierre Gasly (Alpine), Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) and Nico Hulkenberg (Sauber), who were all knocked out in Q1.

Stay tuned.

Verstappen tops Q1 times

There’s little doubt that there’s more to come from McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in qualifying at the F1 2025 Miami GP but for now, Max Verstappen leads the way in Florida.

The Dutchman put in a 1:26.870 to top the timing boards by 0.085 and his Red Bull seems to be working pretty well.

Can he surprise audiences with a third pole of the year?

OUT in Q1: Tsunoda and Hamilton survive scare

Lewis Hamilton and Yuki Tsunoda rescue their bacons at the F1 2025 Miami GP by booking their places into Q2 at the very death of the session with a pair of fine laps.

They’ll look to kick on and find some extra speed, but five drivers won’t be doing that anymore so who was eliminated in Q1 at the Miami International Autodrome?

OUT in Q1: Oliver Bearman (Haas; 20th), Lance Stroll (Aston Martin), Pierre Gasly (Alpine), Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) and Nico Hulkenberg (Sauber).

Five minutes to go: Who is in danger?

Max Verstappen now goes fastest with a 1:26.870 to stay clear of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri by a healthy 0.136 margin, but he isn’t the one we’re watching at the moment.

Those in danger are Oliver Bearman (Haas), Lance Stroll (Aston Martin), Pierre Gasly (Alpine), Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) and Esteban Ocon (Haas).

If they can’t find some extra speed then they’re heading out of qualifying for the F1 2025 Miami GP early.

Seven minutes to go: Sainz sets a strong time

Carlos Sainz demonstrates how quickly the track is evolving at the Miami International Autodrome by going second-fastest behind Kimi Antonelli by just 0.021, despite being in the slower Williams package.

Everyone could be at risk so far. Everyone needs to be out there to be able to react to the developing times.

10 minutes to go: Alex Albon under investigation

Alex Albon is under investigation for a pit-lane infringement after cutting in front of Isack Hadjar’s RB car. The Williams doesn’t appear to have had his wheel in the fast lane.

If Hadjar gets through, it’s likely to just be a telling off.

First runs on the board: Piastri goes quickest

Oscar Piastri leads the way after the first of potentially three runs in qualifying with a 1:27.307, ahead of Max Verstappen’s Red Bull by 0.266. Lando Norris slots into third.

Several drivers still are yet to put their times on the board though, including both Mercedes cars and both RB cars so exactly who is in danger is not yet clear.

Qualifying begins in Miami

Drivers have 18 minutes to get their best lap times on the board, and the slowest five cars are going to be booted out and forced to watch on the sidelines.

It’s qualifying for the F1 2025 Miami GP, who will make it through to the next stage?

Charles Leclerc will be ready for qualifying

Those extra 15 minutes after the FIA delayed qualifying may have come in the nick of time for Charles Leclerc, as Ferrari have managed to patch up his SF-25 and he will compete.

Here’s how he wrecked his car during the lap-to-the-grid during the F1 2025 Miami GP Sprint Race:

Can Alex Albon make it an even sweeter weekend for Williams?

The five points bagged by Alex Albon are big for Williams, offering them daylight between themselves and Haas in the constructors’ championship battle.

Can the Thai-Brit make it an even sweeter weekend for the team though, by making it into Q3 in Miami? And can he be backed up by Carlos Sainz?

REPORT: What happened in Sprint Qualifying?

It’s a rare weekend in the sense that there is already a qualifying session to draw conclusions from about the pecking order, so how did they shape up in Sprint Qualifying on Friday evening?

Kimi Antonelli had taken pole ahead of the McLaren cars of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, but two did the young Mercedes driver do it?
