Lewis Hamilton suggests there are a lot of serious problems behind-the-scenes for Ferrari as he hints at wanting things changed following the 2025 Canadian GP, but reveals he isn’t allowed to talk about it.
The 40-year-old, who boasts over 17 years of experience in the sport, experienced another tough race, this time at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, as the Scuderia made more strategic errors.
A poorly-made decision to pit him when he was close to McLaren’s Oscar Piastri cost him 10 seconds working his way back through traffic, before his race also came undone through brake issues and an unfortunate moment with a groundhog strike.

It was the latest challenging race for the seven-time Formula 1 world champion as he struggles in his adaption from Mercedes, although this time it was out of his control after he delivered a solid qualifying effort on Saturday.
Yet as Mercedes and Red Bull bring upgrades to try to close up to McLaren, Ferrari have seldom brought updates as a disheartened Hamilton hints at serious behind-the-scenes problems for the team as the season gets away from them.
“I’m asking for these things [upgrades]. I don’t know why we haven’t been bringing upgrades,” Hamilton told Sky Sports Italy. “I think we have one hopefully coming soon.

“The mindset for me, I’m like, “There’s a lot of changes that need to be made in the system.’ I wish I could tell you what’s happening. There’s a lot going on in the background. I can’t say too much about it.
“There’s so many things I wish I could tell you that could explain the things that have happened this year, the problems we had and what’s going on within the organisation. But my goal is to try and positively influence, try and get change so we can have long term success.
“There’s a lot of changes that we need. For me it’s that foundation building. We’re not fighting for a championship.”
Both drivers frustrated in Canada as Hamilton and Leclerc find problems with Ferrari
Hamilton is not alone in his criticism of something within the team either, as both he and Charles Leclerc have frustratedly called out Maranello for falling below their standards throughout the opening 10 races of the campaign.
That was on show once again in Montreal as the man from Monaco hit out at his team for their strategic decisions, which began when they committed to Plan B whilst he suggested Plan C.
When they pitted him for fresh tyres, they put on the same hard compound as their opening stint and committed themselves to the two-stopper, leaving the 27-year-old confused at their reasoning.
Then when the time to pit again approached, the team continued to leave him out, perhaps hoping for a safety car or red flag, before finally allowing him to get onto the medium tyre – something Leclerc had felt was a strong compound.
Eventually, both cars came home in fourth and fifth by virtue of Lando Norris’ late DNF for McLaren, and underscored a theme of a lack of performance combined with an inconsistent operation the pit wall, all part of why Fred Vasseur’s job is reportedly on the line.
Despite having two drivers with a combined 113 wins, 248 podiums and 128 pole positions, the team has managed to finish in the top three of a Grand Prix just three times in 2025, suggesting a car with a ceiling far below their talents are capable of.
