Lando Norris reveals his goal is to become the best driver from the United Kingdom as the McLaren racer opens up on his season ambitions ahead of the F1 2025 British GP at Silverstone.
Currently second in the drivers’ standings, he leads the likes of George Russell, Lewis Hamilton, Alex Albon and Oliver Bearman; whom all hail from the same shores as the man from Bristol, although Albon races under a Thai license to recognise his heritage.
And staying atop of this pile is what the 25-year-old endeavours to do as he heads to Silverstone for his home Grand Prix weekend from July 4-6, looking to claim his maiden victory at the famous circuit.
“From a British perspective, I have the best chance of winning the race,” Norris told media, including Total-Motorsport.com, as he reveals his F1 goals. “And of course I am the one that is most likely to be fighting for the championship this season.
“Am I the British number one? I don’t know. I don’t know how much you have to take into account history. If you do, then Lewis is quite convincingly at the top – he has a lot more wins, poles and championships than anyone else put together.
“Being the British number one would be nice, that’s my goal, the same as it is with any sportsman, whether it is in tennis or golf, you want to be the number one, but I would say I haven’t proven myself to be there yet. But it is something I am working on.”

Is Lando Norris better than Lewis Hamilton?
To say Norris’ stats pale in comparison to Hamilton’s would be an understatement, with the 40-year-old Ferrari driver boasting seven Formula 1 world titles, 105 race wins, 104 pole positions and 202 podium finishes, with 4953.5 points ahead the weekend.
The McLaren racer, meanwhile, looks for his seventh win in the sport – which would put him two victories behind Hamilton‘s total of British GP wins alone, however, the changing of the guard would finally be here.
At the age of 40, the former-Mercedes racer has seemed out of sorts since 2024 and found himself struggling, particularly in qualifying, to keep up with Russell whilst a similar story is emerging at Ferrari against Charles Leclerc too.
Meanwhile, Norris has been on a strong run of form since he and his team emerged as championship candidates at the 2024 Miami GP, the same weekend that he claimed his maiden victory in the sport.
Following that triumph, he has gone on to add six more wins, 11 podiums, 11 pole positions and 550 points as he became Max Verstappen’s immediate challenger and pre-season favourite to become the first McLaren world champion since 2008.
Now at the 2025 British GP, he looks to cut the gap in the driver’ standings down to eight points should be lead Oscar Piastri to a McLaren 1-2 before what will be a sold-out crowd of around 164,000 people.
