Red Bull’s Helmut Marko fires a shot at George Russell for “talking too much” after the Brit weighed in on the drama of reports linking Max Verstappen to Mercedes, something Toto Wolff all-but-confirmed he is exploring.
News broke that the Silver Arrows could be looking to recruit the four-time world champion in the upcoming Formula 1 seasons, leaving the 2025 Canadian GP winner in a tricky position.
With his contract expiring at the end of this year and his teammate, Kimi Antonelli, tipped as a potentially generation-defining talent, the 27-year-old could find his future at Brackley on the line.

And he reacted to that ahead of the Austrian GP at the Red Bull Ring but insisting he understands why Wolff is looking at picking up the Dutchman, who he missed out on in 2014, and that he isn’t afraid of losing his seat.
Yet following these comments, Marko didn’t seem to appreciate them as he fires a shot at Russell amid the Verstappen to Mercedes drama by suggesting the four-time race winner “talks too much”.
“What’s up with him now?” Marko said to media in Spielberg. “Russell does talk, but I thought he had a contract for next year.

“That must have changed since Montreal. So that victory actually damaged him. We can’t actually take this seriously. Russell just talks too much.”
Verstappen to Mercedes drama: What do we know as Russell finds future at risk?
As Sunday’s Austrian GP looms, Russell‘s contract status remains a hot topic, with speculation swirling around Mercedes’ ongoing interest in Verstappen. So, what do we actually know?
Russell‘s current deal ends in 2025, and despite a strong season that sees him sit fourth in the driver standings, just 19 points behind the Red Bull star, he could find himself shopping for a new team soon.
Wolff hasn’t hidden his admiration for Verstappen, fueling rumors he could resume his pursuit for the defending world champion after chasing him as a potential replacement for Lewis Hamilton in 2024, but Russell seems unfazed.
However, the idea of pairing the two talents raises eyebrows, particularly given past tensions between the two, including a heated clash at the 2024 Abu Dhabi GP finale and once again at the 2025 races in Spain and Canada.
As for Verstappen, he’s previously downplayed exit talk by telling reporters at the Red Bull Ring last year, including Total-Motorsport.com, “I’ve got a long contract with the team. I’m very happy with where I’m at.”
For now, it’s little more than the rumour mill swirling and the typical exchange of conversations between drivers and teams up and down the grid, but the longer Russell doesn’t ink a deal at the Silver Arrows, the louder the talk will become.
