George Russell reveals Mercedes can still ‘win’ at the F1 2025 Miami GP if they manage to secure a podium after a rough performance from the Brit on May 3 leaves him fifth on the grid.
Out-qualified by Kimi Antonelli twice this weekend, the 27-year-old has been surprisingly off the pace in what has been his specialist area since he arrived into the sport in 2019 and quickly began dubbed Mr. Saturday.
The Silver Arrows have been able to rely on him putting in a reliable lap throughout his career at Brackley, but that hasn’t materialised across the weekend and now he faces a recovery job on Sunday, May 4 as he risks losing touch of the Formula 1 title race.

So with that in mind, Russell sets a podium as the target for Mercedes at the F1 2025 Miami GP as he reveals if the team can somehow secure one then it will feel like a ‘win’ for him.
“A podium would be a win tomorrow,” Russell told Sky Sports F1. “Realistically, the McLarens are out of reach.
“Max’s race pace has been surprisingly good recently. We talk a lot about McLaren but Red Bull are still strong. Hopefully a bit more rain will spice things up a bit.”

Kimi Antonelli fires warning at Lando Norris and Max Verstappen
Both sides of the Mercedes garages are looking to make amends at the F1 2025 Miami GP as Kimi Antonelli bids to avenge his poor start in the Sprint Race, as he found himself pushed off track by McLaren’s Oscar Piastri.
Setting him on the backfoot for the rest of the 18 laps, he slipped further and further down the order until a crash with Verstappen’s Red Bull in the pitlane relegated him well out of the points.
Frustrated with Piastri’s move into Turn 1, the young Italian warns the cars around him that he understands how the FIA will let him go racing now as he fires a threat that he’s going to be punchy on Sunday.
“I am more clear on what I can do on Lap 1,” Antonelli also told Sky Sports F1. “But it’s a different starting position.
“It will be important to play it smart, aggressive as well – a good amount. And we will see what happens at the front and I will take every opportunity.”
