How can I watch Formula E 2024 in the UK?

What channel is Formula E on in the UK? Who are the Formula E commentators in 2024?

-

Formula E is back for 2024 but in the United Kingdom it’s on a different channel compared to previous year and you will now need to pay in order to watch one of the most competitive motorsport series.

Since its inception in 2014, Formula E has been free-to-air in the UK – first being broadcasted on ITV, before spells with Channel 5, the BBC and Channel 4.

It has also had varied coverage on Formula E‘s YouTube channel, with practice and qualifying mostly being shown for free during the first nine seasons. However, a new deal with TNT Sports means a new era for UK Formula E fans will begin on January 13 with the season-opening Mexico City E-Prix.

Formula E on TNT Sports

TNT Sports, previously known as BT Sport, will show every session from a Formula E weekend including practice, qualifying and the race itself.

BT Sport and Eurosport agreed a merger which began in 2023, although the latter channel still exists and remains the home of several sports such as cycling, snooker and winter sports.

Formula E has actually been shown on Eurosport since Season 4 at the end of 2017, alongside the free-to-air channels.

TNT Sports is not new to motorsport as they also show MotoGP (along with Moto2 and Moto3), the World Rally Championship and the Supercars Championship from Down Under.

How to watch Formula E on TNT Sports

All Formula E sessions will be shown across TNT Sports via TNT Sports 1, TNT Sports 2, TNT Sports 3, TNT Sports 4 or on its digital and red button channels (TNT Sports 5 to 10).

You can also watch via discovery+ which is TNT Sports and Eurosport‘s streaming platform. Live and catch-up options are available to watch every Formula E session on discovery+.

Sky TV customers who subscribe to TNT Sports will also be able to access the Premium plan on discovery+, which will enable them to enjoy TNT Sports via the discovery+ app on Sky Glass, Sky Stream and Sky Q.

Another option is to wait for seven days to watch the race for free as Formula E will upload the latest E-Prix a week after it has happened on their YouTube channel.

Formula E commentators and punditry line-up

Some big changes were made to the Formula E broadcasting line-up after the 2023 Monaco E-Prix when commentator Jack Nicholls‘ contract was terminated due to complaints of inappropriate behaviour towards women.

Nicholls was replaced by Ben Edwards for the Jakarta and Portland E-Prix weekends, then Tom Brooks took over as lead commentator for the double-headers in Rome and London.

Brooks will be Formula E‘s main commentator on a permanent basis for 2024 with Karun Chandhok, Dario Franchitti and Allan McNish sharing co-commentator duties across the season.

Also coinciding with Nicholls‘ departure was Vernon Kay‘s already planned decision to not be the main presenter after Monaco 2023.

Nicki Shields and Radzi Chinyanganya shared presenting roles but, in a surprise move, former football Jermaine Jenas will be the lead presenter in 2024.

“Since retiring from football I never thought I would find a sport that I loved as much but Formula E is a sport like nothing else,” said Jenas. “I couldn’t be more excited to take on this incredible presenting role and travel the world with such amazing teams.

“To get in front of the camera and share that energy and action with viewers is a whole new challenge and adrenaline rush for me and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Saunders Carmichael-Brown will be the main pit reporter, with guest appearances from former Formula E driver Andre Lotterer, rally driver Catie Munnings, ex-F1 veteran David Coulthard and inaugural W Series champion Jamie Chadwick during 2024.

When does the Formula E 2024 season begin?

The 2024 Formula E season will start on Saturday, January 13 with the Mexico City E-Prix. The first track action will take place the day before on January 12.

Jake Dennis is the defending champion and is set to face stiff competition from new Jaguar pairing Mitch Evans and Nick Cassidy.

Porsche‘s Antonio Felix da Costa and Pascal Wehrlein are also confident about their chances, so expect another fierce fight for the championship all the way to the season-finale in London on July 20-21.
