Da Costa: Character building Misano weekend makes me hungrier

Antonio Felix da Costa had a nightmare weekend on Formula E's first visit to Misano

-

Antonio Felix da Costa has admitted his 2024 Misano E-Prix weekend will be an event to delve into in his future book after he came away with no points and lost a win.

On a week where Da Costa‘s future at Porsche was in the limelight, after they tested a driver from another team, the Portuguese driver responded with a win on Saturday only to be disqualified four hours after the race.

An illegible throttle damper cost Da Costa his first win of the season, even though Porsche had been running the part since the start of Gen3 in 2023.

It didn’t get much better on Sunday as Da Costa started at the back due to a track limits infringement in qualifying and finished a lap behind after contact with McLaren‘s Sam Bird.

“It’s been a very character building weekend,” Da Costa exclusively told Total-Motorsport.com. “It’s been a rollercoaster this year. I can’t seem to catch a break.

“After the Saturday race I thought, ‘things are finally starting to turn for us and we are actually in contention of this championship again’ and then we were disqualified.

“I tried to clear my head and I think I did that. We were quick in practice and qualifying on Sunday but I lost my lap due to track limits.

“I started 22nd but still with a smile on my face and had a lot of fun climbing through the field, got into the top 10, then I hit Sam and broke my front wing.

“Life is a bit complicated but I think there are positives to take. If anything, I’m just getting hungrier and hungrier. This is a weekend for my book!”

Da Costa title hopes hanging by a thread

For the second successive season, Da Costa could be playing the team role to help Pascal Wehrlein in his title bid, as the German driver sits at the top of the Formula E driver standings.

Da Costa, who is yet to score a podium in 2024, is 14th and 69 points adrift of Wehrlein with nine races remaining but is unsure of his championship hopes ahead of the Monaco E-Prix on Saturday, April 27.

“Twenty-four hours can have a big change,” said Da Costa. “But if you asked me this after Saturday, I would say ‘yes absolutely I am in the championship’ but now I think it’s complicated.

“I’m looking forward to Monaco, a place I’ve won before and I have a lot of good memories there as well.”
