Ferrari F1 Team History
Founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1929, Scuderia Ferrari originally competed as the racing division of Alfa Romeo before becoming an independent constructor in 1947. The team entered Formula 1 at the sport’s inception in 1950 and scored its first victory the following year at the British Grand Prix with José Froilán González behind the wheel.
Ferrari’s first era of dominance came in the early 1950s with Alberto Ascari, who claimed back-to-back world championships in 1952 and 1953. The team continued to find success in the 1960s and 1970s, winning titles with John Surtees in 1964 and Niki Lauda in 1975 and 1977.
The late 1990s marked the beginning of the team’s most successful period, as Michael Schumacher and Team Principal Jean Todt led Ferrari to five consecutive Drivers’ Championships from 2000 to 2004, along with six straight Constructors’ titles. This era cemented Ferrari as the benchmark in modern Formula 1, thanks to a combination of technical innovation, operational excellence, and driver brilliance.
Although recent years have seen fierce competition from Mercedes and Red Bull, Ferrari remains the most successful team in F1 history, with 16 Constructors’ Championships and 15 Drivers’ Championships. The team’s fan base, known as the Tifosi, is among the most passionate in motorsport, filling grandstands worldwide with the unmistakable sea of red.
Today, Ferrari continues to operate from its Maranello headquarters, producing its own chassis and power units, and remains committed to returning to the top step of the podium. The Prancing Horse is more than a racing team — it is a symbol of speed, prestige, and Italian engineering excellence.
