About the Barcelona Grand Prix
The Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix is held at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Montmelo, just outside Barcelona. Long known as the home of the Spanish Grand Prix, the venue has hosted Formula 1 since 1991 and now carries the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix name as Madrid takes over the Spanish Grand Prix title from 2026. The circuit has been one of the sport’s most important reference tracks for decades, regularly used for testing thanks to its mix of high speed corners, slower technical sections and long straights.
Set in Catalonia, the event combines a demanding permanent circuit with one of Europe’s great sporting destinations. Barcelona’s layout has often been seen as a complete test of car performance, asking teams to find a balance between aerodynamic efficiency, tyre management and mechanical grip. With fast right handers, heavy braking zones and a long run to Turn 1, the race often rewards a well rounded car and can offer a clear picture of the competitive order as the European season develops.
