Yuki Tsunoda left in dark by Red Bull and may consider ‘interesting’ offer

The Japanese driver has cast doubt on joining Red Bull, with interest gathering pace to hire the RB star for the 2025 season.

Yuki Tsunoda is hoping his performances for Visa Cash App RB will earn him a Red Bull seat next season, but revealed he is yet to hold talks over his future with the Formula 1 team.

Tsunoda’s future at RB looks uncertain beyond the 2024 season as he has been linked with potential moves to Aston Martin and Haas. The 24-year-old would also be in contention to replace Sergio Perez should Red Bull decide not to extend the Mexican’s contract for 2025.

But while the Japanese driver would jump at the chance to join Red Bull, he has been left in the dark over what the team’s plans are for next season – and hinted he is open to staying with RB if the opportunity is there.

“I never heard anything about with Red Bull, to be honest. I haven’t tested anything yet, so not sure what’s going on there. Obviously if I can go rapid, that would be great,” Tsunoda told select members of the press in Imola, including Total-Motorsport.com.

“Still, RB is in very good shape to be honest. So even if I can stay at RB, that would be great, but we also have to think about the future in that case. You never know what’s going to happen and if I get a real interesting [offer], I have to go through it.

“Obviously I was part of the Red Bull family since I was very young and I would like to stay as long as possible. I feel support from them as well, so I want to keep bringing back as a result for them. I’m doing well so far and I hope to continue like this.”

Tsunoda attracting interest from two teams

Tsunoda’s increased maturity behind the wheel has not gone unnoticed by Red Bull chiefs as well as other teams, and his return of two seventh-placed finishes in Australia and Miami underlined his talent on the racetrack.

It has been suggested Honda are keen for a Japanese driver to join Aston Martin when they switch to the engine supplier in 2026, while Haas are managed by Ayao Komatsu – who is a fan of Tsunoda and will have at least one seat to fill next season following Nico Hulkenberg’s exit to Sauber.

But Tsunoda said: “I’m not really thinking about that. It’s a good thing that I’m feeling confident and I think it’s a different situation compared with previous years. I don’t know how it’s going to be but I definitely feel more interest from other teams.

“It kind of matches my target that I have to show my value as a driver to other teams that I can do well, and [prove] that I’m not just a driver that drives.”
