Yuki Tsunoda has high hopes for AlphaTauri at 2023 US GP

After a 15th place finish at the last F1 race in Qatar, Tsunoda is expecting a lot more from the team in Austin

AlphaTauri driver Yuki Tsunoda believes his team have made vast strides to improve their pace and competitiveness ahead of the 2023 United States Grand Prix in Austin, where he expects to see results.

Tsunoda expressed his optimism towards AlphaTauri‘s newly implemented upgrade package going into the weekend at the Circuit of the Americas, which he feels is much needed as the team have struggled with form and competitiveness throughout the 2023 F1 season.

“I’m expecting to be better than Qatar,” Tsunoda told the press. “We got a lot of perspective to improve from that race week and also from the setup, we saw a lot of limitations from the car.

“We’re bringing a couple of upgrades and are expecting to be better than Qatar, a couple of corners will suit our car, so it should be better.”

Heading into the 2023 US GP, Tsunoda sits in 17th place on the driver standings, with a points haul of three thus far, while AlphaTauri are last in the constructors’ championship, with just five points on the board.

AlphaTauri also welcomed back Daniel Ricciardo to the fold after the Australian missed the last five Grand Prix with a broken hand.

Looking ahead to Las Vegas

With the Las Vegas Grand Prix looming on the calendar, Tsunoda feels every team and driver will be on a level playing field, in terms of learning the track’s various twists and turns.

“Luckily, I experienced a lot in my first year, a lot of tracks were first time,” Tsunoda said, when asked about racing at a track for the first time.

“I think Las Vegas will be the first time for everyone, it will be equal conditions, so it’s not much stress for myself. I have to adapt every lap, and not overpush and lose the car, end up in the wall and lose the confidence.”
