Sargeant: I have to be better

Logan Sargeant is last in the drivers' championship after eight rounds in his rookie F1 season

Williams driver Logan Sargeant has admitted he must be better, after a difficult start to his debut Formula 1 season.

The rookie is yet to beat Alex Albon in qualifying or the race, when both drivers have found the chequered flag, and is one of only two drivers not to score a point.

“I think there’s been good points and there’s been bad points,” Sargeant said to the media. “Looking at myself, very honestly, I think I have to be better.

“I’m never completely satisfied and there’s nothing to be satisfied about yet. So yeah, plenty to work on and plenty to improve on so that has to be the goal.

“I think this weekend, going to a new track with tricky conditions, we [Sargeant and Albon] have both had a couple of crashes now, so we need to keep it clean.”

Williams’ Canada upgrade not for Sargeant

Sargeant’s highest finish was 12th in the season-opening 2023 Bahrain Grand Prix, but since then he has failed to cross the chequered flag higher than 16th.

The 22-year-old has only made one Q2 appearance this season, in Azerbaijan, but has narrowly missed out on more outings in the second part of qualifying in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Monaco.

Williams have introduced an upgrade package for the Canadian GP, but Sargeant will have to wait an extra weekend to run the update.

Alex has the upgrade this weekend,” Sargeant said to the media. “Hopefully that works extremely well because that will benefit me going forward.

“It has more load but that comes with new characteristics, so I think that’s something they’re going to have to try and get on top of.
