F1 world hits out at Verstappen: Nobody is going to want to work with him

Pedro de la Rosa believes Max Verstappen's decision not to follow team orders could have long-lasting ramifications unless Red Bull quickly step in

-

Former F1 driver Pedro de la Rosa believes Red Bull must make Max Verstappen understand why his decision to refuse team orders was wrong or they may have trouble filling their second seat in the future.

The Dutchman passed teammate Sergio Perez following a late Safety Car period at the Brazilian GP as the duo looked to chase down Fernando Alonso. With the two unable to catch the Alpine, Verstappen was asked to let Perez through at the final corner in order to aid the Mexican’s push for second in the championship.

Instead, Verstappen approached the line without backing off, with race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase asking him what happened.

“I told you already last time guys, don’t ask that again to me, okay,” said Verstappen. “Are we clear about that? I gave my reasons and I stand by it.”

Perez stated that Verstappen had shown who he truly was, and while team principal Christian Horner later insisted that Red Bull are focused on securing second for the Mexican in Abu Dhabi, there’s been no shortage of criticism directed at the Dutchman over the matter.

“Nobody is going to want to work with Verstappen”

Pedro de la Rosa, who made 107 Grand Prix starts with Arrows, Jaguar, McLaren, Sauber and HRT says Red Bull must address the matter with Verstappen.

The Spaniard told DAZN Spain that the Milton Keynes outfit have to make it clear to the Dutchman that he was in the wrong, because future teammates may not be willing to help him out if they know they are going to be treated poorly.

“I think it’s the team’s job to make him understand why it’s wrong, and he has to understand because it’s very important if he wants to have a loyal squire like he has had in Checo,” explained De la Rosa.

“Nobody is going to want to work for Verstappen if they know that he is going to pay them back like this.”

    • Verstappen won’t want Riccardo as teammate again as he was outperform by him 2 out of the 3 seasons as teammates. Golden boi won’t like that one bit…

  1. Max is like a child who needs to grow up , he is already world champion so his position in the race makes no difference to . Put his toys back in the box until he behaves and does what he is told for the team.

    • Why don’t you just shut up.
Until you know what the hell is going on.All you Max haters make me Sick.. when Hamilton was winning nothing was said about him do you think he would have moved over for bottas no way would he.to say nobody would work with Max is the under statement of the year just ask Toto leave the boy Alone

        • The rule is that you have to give a car wide space if someone is sitting next to it. Hamilton didn’t do that and Max crashed because he had nowhere to go! So Hamilton’s mistake! If this gets to the sports judge, Ham won’t have a leg to stand on and will be guilty to the crash!
Anyone with a normal view of this accident can see that Ham just cut him off! Also that Ham cut 2 corners and gained an advantage! And all that driving on the way, very failed that the stewards of the FIA do not apply their own rules in favor of Ham! Mafia behavior!
What Tom Coronel says is correct. Perez probably crashed in Monaco and Max couldn’t finish on his way to pole! And this misconduct Perez later admitted to Helmut Marko and Christian Horner. Max Verstappen has not forgotten that”, Let’s not forget….if that is the case, there will be an investigation and Perez will be suspended for life, just like Flavio Briatore then in 2008 Signapore GP! That is why Max does not want to say anything, this is the end of Perez’s career !
It was discussed before the race, Max said this, so Renger vd Zande better watch out! The Mafia of the FIA gives Max a penalty while Hamilton was his fault by not giving Max space! Just unbelievable to act so wrong in public like that, I have lost all faith in the FIA! The race management gave Verstappen a five-second penalty and two penalty points for the incident with Hamilton, but not everyone thought the decision was fair. Moreover, by cutting 2 corners, Hamilton gains a big advantage, which again has not been penalized, no he can just continue with 0 penalty! What a mafia that FIA! The magazine Marca Italy writes: “The race was caused by an accident on lap 7 between Verstappen and Hamilton. It is incomprehensible that the five-second penalty went to the injured driver and not to the one who left no room. The stewards again showed mistakes during the weekend with various actions.”
2010: Flavio Briatore is banned from F1 for life
In September last year (2009), the Italian Briatore was given the heavy penalty by the international automobile federation FIA for alleged cheating. He is said to have ordered race car driver Nelson Piquet to crash in the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix so that leader Fernando Alonso could win the race.
‘Crashgate’ alongside Renault’s direct dismissal of Briatore and a heavy punishment from the FIA. The team itself was absolutely suspended and technical manager Pat Symmonds was banned from Formula 1 for five years. I’am very curious what punishment Perez gets if the FIA investigate this Monaco gate!

      • Lewis did let Bottas pass, more than once, its just Bottas did it a lot more for Lewis as he needed the points.. Which is why everyone is on at Max about this, Checo needed the points this time and Max didnt oblige..Im a Lewis fan but will say Max is an awesome F1 driver, Just his attude does him no favours..If you know F1 history, you’ll this a gentlemans sport (not a mans sport before I get slammed, a gentlemans sport, in terms of how you behave or conduct yourself). Would you honest say Max is acting like a gentleman or an intitled teenager The F1 world slammed Vettel for doing the same thing to Mark Webber he was public enemy No1. Yet were not all Vettel haters.
Say what you see, Max is a big baby and a brilliant driver. Learn about the sport. His attitude on track will get someone hurt one day..

      • When did Hamilton refuse to move over for a team mate who has helped him all season max is just a champion on paper both his titles are from cheating the whole world knows it

      • You are so wrong Lewis is way better than max who always respected team orders. Ur Max is just a child n immature, maybe you are too. Cry baby cry 😭

      • Talk sense mate Hamilton helped him many times.
They were a strong team together.
Verstapen and Perez were the same before the brat threw his toys out of the pram.

      • We are Max haters because he is exactly what Checco said at the time “it shows who he really is” A spoilt, arrogant, big headed bully/Prat who is totally ignorant and devoid of consideration for his team mate and the whole Red Bull team. He thinks everyone should give way for him he proved that in 2021 and last weekend. Well he will have to learn how to behave and grow up. Lewis would never have sunk so low as Verstappen has.

      • U are an asshole who is trying to potray asif its a clash between two teams..first u gain ur fucking knowledge about what happened out there..it is about Max’s ego..not aboit Toto, not about Hamilton, not about Mercedes. So get your facts rights bitch!!!

  2. So Harry, you have no problem with Perez being told to move over as Max couldn’t get by him but not the reversal, interesting 🤔

  3. Max verstappens has a big ego and unfortunately it stems from his father who has been influential in his sons mindset and is jealous his son has had the success he never had his father was never a team player either hence his nickname jos the boss verstappen as he liked to try and bully his way past other drivers on track and with very little success

  4. All the retarded max/rb fans, when criticised will drag lewis and merc in. Lol. Just no idea why. Like they needed something to step on to be champion. Max is just terrible and self entitled bitchass

  5. Theres no doubt that Max is a good driver….but has shown his arrogance…maybe Red Bull should fine him for not following orders

  6. Remember the days of Schumacher he was very arrogant and never gave way to anyone for whatever reason ..Max has a lot to learn but it’s gonna take time for the team to Adjust him there way of thinking ..They won’t upset or Rock the Boat with him in anyway as The Team are on Winning streak which hasn’t happened for a long time !!

  7. All self tried again to bully Lewis, can’t win GP on first lap BUT you can lose it can’t believe he thinks he won world championships, he knows Lewis was robbed .

  8. The rule is that you have to give a car wide space if someone is sitting next to it. Hamilton didn’t do that and Max crashed because he had nowhere to go! So Hamilton’s mistake! If this gets to the sports judge, Ham won’t have a leg to stand on and will be guilty to the crash!

  9. Checo had the place first, but RB gave the position to Max to try and overtake Alonso. Max didn’t manage it so RB wanted him to give it back to Checo, so it wasn’t his place to keep in the first place. For Max to keep a grudge against Checo is very childish.
As for the comparison with Lewis, Lewis years ago asked to have Bottas’ place to pass the next driver and when he didn’t manage it he gave it back to Bottas. Other times it was for points to win the drivers championship when it’s clear there is one doing better than the other.

  10. Why do people bring Lewis into it, when max does something wrong. Max fans didn’t say anything last year when max won because of the fia but not the fia is wrong so does that mean ” max fans” that the fia where wrong last year???

  11. He’s a spoilt child that thinks everyone should move over for him , F1 proved last year that red bulls sponsorship is worth more than honesty and integrity, we all heard horner to massi we only need 1 lap proving that red bull has the wrong advertising slogan it should be red bull gets or guarantees you win
