F1 Testing 2024: Results from Day 1 Morning Session

Find out the Formula 1 results from the morning session of 2024 testing in Bahrain

Max Verstappen and Red Bull picked up right where they left off last season, leading the way in the opening morning of F1 2024 pre-season testing at the Bahrain International Circuit.

Despite navigating through challenging moments at Turns 5 and 8, reigning world champion Verstappen recorded a time of 1:32.548. Impressively, he also completed more than a race distance using Pirelli’s harder tire compounds, underscoring a productive start to the day.

George Russell was the first to venture out onto the track as the green light illuminated at the pit lane’s exit, initiating a flurry of activity as teams eagerly explored the capabilities of their new vehicles.

Charles Leclerc followed in second place for Ferrari, trailing Verstappen by seven-tenths, with Fernando Alonso in his Aston Martin just a little further back. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri secured fourth place, with RB’s Yuki Tsunoda and Mercedes’ George Russell completing the top six, despite Russell’s extensive time in the garage for car adjustments.

Russell’s push in the final minutes saw him surpass Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas and Williams’ Alex Albon, who, along with Esteban Ocon, experienced their own share of incidents on the track.
