F1 Testing 2024: Which drivers and teams completed the most laps in Bahrain?

The F1 teams and drivers spend three days testing in Bahrain ahead of the 2024 season

-

After fitting in a gruelling 24 hours of Formula 1 Testing over three days in Bahrain desert, all 10 teams and 20 drivers will go away for a well-earned rest, knowing much more about their cars now than they did when they first rocked up at the circuit on Wednesday morning.

As testing sessions go, it was a masterclass from the F1 engineering wizards. Every team had come prepared to learn about the 2024 models they had spent months agonising over, from assembling one of the thousands of tiny parts to ensuring the engine fires on all cylinders.

Their work clearly paid off, with technical issues far and few between throughout. As for the drivers, there were zero incidents to speak about other than the odd lock-up or spin, showing just how seriously were treating their time behind the wheel.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t all smooth running as a rogue drain cover wreaked chaos on Day 2 and another delayed the morning session on Day 3.

With only eight days left to make their final tweaks before the season starts, the drivers will know they have done their bit after putting in the hard miles inside the cockpit. But which driver and team pushed themselves to the limit?

Ferrari and Red Bull close as Haas spring surprise

It may come as a surprise given the major personnel changes at the team this winter, but Haas will be delighted that they were able to get the most mileage out of their driver pairing out of all the teams combined.

Indeed, Kevin Magnussen racked up an impressive total of 239 laps in the VF-24, while Nico Hulkenberg wasn’t far away as he also passed the 200-lap mark on 202 laps completed.

Ferrari and Red Bull would have collected enough data to make sense of where they are at, although the timings at this stage of the season are not always representative of what we see in free practice and qualifying.

As a contrast, Williams posted the lowest total with 309 laps between Logan Sargeant and Alex Albon, with the former experiencing a driveshaft issue on Day 2 to limit his time on track.

But with Sainz posting the fastest lap of anyone on the C4 tyre – the softest compound available – the Spaniard’s impressive time will give Red Bull and Mercedes some food for thought, as the Scuderia flourished in the warm conditions at the Bahrain international Circuit.
