Lando Norris took a tense victory as the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix delivered an edge-of-your-seat contest at the Red Bull Ring to tighten things up in the F1 championship standings.
The McLaren driver battled throughout the 71-lap race, fending off relentless pressure from teammate Oscar Piastri to claim his third win of the season and reduce his deficit to the Australian in the drivers’ championship.
From the moment the lights went out at the Red Bull Ring, the McLarens set the pace. Starting from pole, Norris held the lead at Turn 1, but Piastri was quick to challenge after passing Charles Leclerc in the opening corners. The pair exchanged positions at Turn 3 and Turn 4 on lap 11, with Piastri briefly grabbing the advantage before Norris reclaimed the lead.
As the first stint unfolded, Piastri made a daring move under braking at Turn 4 on Lap 20, locking up and coming perilously close to contact with his teammate. Norris pitted immediately, with Piastri extending his first stint by three laps in a bid to outmaneuver the Brit on strategy.
But despite the late threat, Norris stabilized the margin and crossed the line to claim a crucial victory, putting the disappointment of his Canadian Grand Prix crash firmly behind him.
