F1 Standings after 2022 Canadian GP

Max Verstappen won his sixth race of the 2022 season by holding off Carlos Sainz in Montreal

    -

Max Verstappen extended his lead at the top of the F1 Drivers’ Championship Standings with an impressive victory at the Canadian GP by fending off a late attack from Carlos Sainz.

A safety car, caused by Yuki Tsunoda, saw Verstappen and Sainz go head to head over the final 15 laps with the Dutchman prevailing by less than one second.

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell maximised Mercedes‘ afternoon at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve with third and fourth after both making ground early on.

A retirement for Sergio Perez, due to a suspected gearbox problem, means Verstappen is now 46 points ahead of his teammate with Charles Leclerc a further three points further adrift.

Leclerc had to settle for fifth after a frustrating race which saw him stuck in traffic, but was helped by the late race safety car and overtook Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon to somewhat save his day in Montreal.
