F1 Spanish GP 2025 Starting Grid

McLaren lock out the front row at the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix

-

Oscar Piastri will line up first on the front row of the Spanish GP 2025 starting grid after an outstanding final effort in Q3 secured pole position for the McLaren driver as he pipped teammate Lando Norris in the final moments of the session.

Piastri delivered another commanding performance in qualifying to clinch pole position, marking Piastri’s fourth career pole and solidifying McLaren’s status as the benchmark team in the field despite the FIA’s newly enforced front wing flex regulations.

Behind the orange cars in Barcelona, Max Verstappen will start third for Red Bull, having set an identical lap time to George Russell in the Mercedes. The Dutchman lines up ahead due to completing his lap earlier, with Russell taking fourth.

Lewis Hamilton beat Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc for just the second time in qualifying this year to claim fifth. The seven-time world champion also outpaced his Mercedes successor Kimi Antonelli, who starts sixth, while Leclerc was a distant seventh after completing only one Q3 attempt.

Pierre Gasly secured a strong eighth for Alpine, aiming to build on his Bahrain GP podium, as rookie sensation Isack Hadjar impressed once more in ninth for Racing Bulls. Fernando Alonso, in front of his home crowd, rounded out the top ten in his Aston Martin after an alternate run plan.
