Another Max Verstappen masterclass blew the F1 competition away as the Red Bull driver locked in pole position for the 2023 Spanish GP, the first ever time he has managed that in Spain.
The Dutchman will be joined on the front row by Carlos Sainz, though he could only get his Ferrari car to 0.462s behind Verstappen. Lando Norris put in a mighty lap and starts third in the McLaren.
Lewis Hamilton, who looked rapid in the first runs in Q3, was unable to capitalise in the final runs and qualified fifth in the Mercedes, behind Pierre Gasly in the Alpine.
It was disaster for Ferrari as Charles Leclerc failed to get out of Q1 and will start in 19th place. Then in Q2 we had more big name casualties with George Russell in the Mercedes coming 12th, just behind Sergio Perez’s Red Bull who was 11th.
