Williams driver Logan Sargeant said he will aim to run a clean race at the Monaco Grand Prix after qualifying in 16th place.
Overtaking is difficult around the streets of Monte Carlo, and the Williams driver said he would look to keep his car out of trouble and find the chequered flag.
The American driver was eliminated in Q1 after setting a lap time 0.059 slower than the standard set by Nyck de Vries to progress through to Q2.
The Williams rookie was four tenths off his teammate, Alex Albon, who was at one stage third fastest in an unusually close F1 qualifying session.
But will now have to try to stay in the race and see where he ends up.
“It’s realistically probably going to be a long day off in P16.” Sargeant said to the media.
“But I haven’t executed a full, clean weekend yet, so it has to be the goal – just have a good start, good race pace and keep my nose clean.
“If I can do that, then I’ll be happy.”
‘Not quite enough’
Sargeant said he had enjoyed the weekend and looked good in the practice sessions before a disappointing Q1 knockout.
“I think from where we were in free practice, we didn’t expect to be as competitive as we were.” Sargeant said to the media.
“To be honest, I’ve been happy with how I’ve been driving all weekend, I was comfortable in FP2, I was comfortable in FP3.
“Even then, I honestly felt like I delivered a good lap there at the end, but yeah, obviously it was not quite enough.”
