De Vries stands firm as rumours surrounding F1 future grow

Nyck de Vries has been under pressure to perform in order to keep his seat on the F1 grid with AlphaTauri

-

AlphaTauri driver Nyck de Vries has admitted he hasn’t read into potential rumours regarding his Formula 1 future.

The 2021 Formula E champion has endured a difficult start to his maiden campaign in F1, failing to score a point in the first seven races and crashing twice in Baku.

De Vries’ poor start to the 2023 F1 season has caused question marks to emerge over his future, with Liam Lawson and former Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo mooted as possible replacements.

“I haven’t personally read any articles concerning that,” De Vries exclusively told Total-Motorsport.com. “I don’t read any media during or outside weekends. So I don’t have any feelings towards that.

“But I also genuinely don’t think it’s any different than all the time. It’s been like that. Always in our sport, we have to perform on the track. So it’s just the same as usual.”

Content with start to season despite struggles

Despite not scoring any points so far in 2023, De Vries has made some progress breaking into Q2 for the first time this season in Miami and finishing 12th in Monaco.

However, the lack of pace of AlphaTauri’s AT04 has limited De Vries in what he can achieve this season, causing him to struggle to put everything together on race day.

“I don’t necessarily think a lot [has] gone wrong,” said De Vries. “I take responsibility for my mistakes. I made a few too many.

“Equally, I think the pace has been good at several moments, but I haven’t been able to put [it] together and convert it into a result.

“We’re all humans, we make mistakes, we move on, and we have a new weekend ahead of us.”

Where is the next F1 2023 race?

The next race is the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix which will be held at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal over the weekend of June 16-18.
