F1 movie latest: Brad Pitt behind the wheel, Tom Cruise as stuntman and Lewis Hamilton advice

The biggest stars could be on show at the British Grand Prix with a specially developed car

    -

Brad Pitt, the star of the upcoming movie about Formula 1, is set to drive for an “11th team” at the British Grand Prix, Will Buxton has confirmed.

The movie star, along with director Joseph Kosinski, are hoping to create the most realistic racing film ever seen to capitalise on the boom of the sport in America.

Kosinski is attending the Miami GP this weekend (5-7 May) in order to learn as much as he can about the sport and spawn ideas off anyone he meets, while Pitt has been at races in the past in a similar capacity.

“Their F1 movie sounds incredible,” Buxton said on Twitter. “They’re creating an 11th team and filming on track and on event from Silverstone to the end of the year.”

    Pitt not actually racing

To the relief of everyone on the F1 grid, Pitt won’t be driving during any registered session at the Silverstone weekend, that would be ridiculous, but instead in between sessions where possible.

Fellow superstar Tom Cruise, who worked with Kosinski to make Top Gun: Maverick, has also supposedly thrown his hat into the ring to do some stunt driving in the film alongside Pitt.

Lewis Hamilton is also lending a helping hand in scriptwriting as someone who knows everything there is to know about F1.

“They’ve spent 18 months taking what they learned Top Gun Maverick to develop the smallest moveable 6k camera ever designed to take the viewer into the cockpit,” Buxton added.

“A cockpit in which their stars will actually drive. That’s right. Brad Pitt driving an F1 car from Silverstone onwards.

“The car has been designed by Mercedes and is already testing (you may have seen a video online.) As are their actors, in sim and real life.

“Lewis Hamilton is in daily communication and is advising on storyline and script to ensure it’s the most accurate racing film ever made.

“Joseph says Frankenheimer’s Grand Prix is his biggest touchstone. Both he and Jerry are determined to make the most accurate, most impressive race movie anyone has ever seen.

“Oh. And Tom Cruise has already offered to do some extra driving if they need him.”
