F1 Monaco GP 2025 Starting Grid: Norris on pole position

Lando Norris stuns Charles Leclerc with last-gasp lap to grab pole position in a dramatic end to qualifying on the streets of Monte Carlo

-

Lando Norris will line up first on the front row of the Monaco GP 2025 starting grid after an outstanding final effort in Q3 secured pole position for the McLaren driver as he pipped home favourite Charles Leclerc in the final moments of the session.

The final stage of qualifying in Monte Carlo saw an intense three-way shootout between Norris, Leclerc, and Oscar Piastri, with the lead changing hands multiple times as conditions peaked and tyres gripped. Leclerc had briefly put his Ferrari at the top of the timesheets with a 1:10.063, only for Norris to find time in the final sector and eclipse him by 0.109s.

Lewis Hamilton secured fourth with a strong lap in the final runs, while Max Verstappen, who complained of a lack of grip throughout qualifying, could only manage fifth. However, Hamilton was handed a three-place grid penalty for impeding the Dutchman.
