Max Verstappen slams ‘BS’ rumours of Red Bull tension

Recently reports claimed there to be tension at Red Bull between Helmut Marko and Christian Horner

Max Verstappen has labelled rumours that Helmut Marko might be about to be removed from his consultancy role at Red Bull as ‘BS.’

Verstappen wrapped up his third world championship title at the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix, but whilst there was obviously talk about the celebrations around that victory ahead of the United States Grand Prix this weekend in Austin, the Dutchman also had to deal with some more negative questions.

Indeed, a report from Brazilian publication Globo has recently claimed that the long-serving Marko could be removed from his consultancy role because of a claimed “tension” with Red Bull team principal Christian Horner.

Horner has been trying to get rid of Marko for some time to control the group’s operation in Formula 1 as a whole,” the Brazilian newspaper claimed, whilst also reporting that the Briton wanted Yuki Tsunoda off of the books at AlphaTauri.

Max Verstappen shuts down ‘BS’ Helmut Marko claims

Verstappen, though, in typical no-nonsense style, shut down the speculation in the press conference ahead of on-track proceedings in Austin.

“I saw that from the outside people are trying to basically talk some BS because I think the mood in the team is very good,” Verstappen said. “Everyone knows exactly what their role is.”

Verstappen then continued, as he reflected on it being a year since Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz had passed away.

“And of course, [there were] sad times last year when Dietrich passed away but we’ve tried to keep that legacy,” Verstappen went on, “keep moving forward, and everyone that we have right now in the team is very important to that success that we’re having.”

“So that’s why there are also no changes for the future. I think that basically explains it.

“We try to keep that legacy, keep moving it forward and everyone that we have right now is very important to that success we’re having so that’s why there are also no changes to the future.”

Horner, meanwhile, has stated that Marko will remain at Red Bull, “for as long as he wants to continue,” with him also seemingly shutting down the speculation around the veteran Austrian.
