Max Verstappen cruises to Brazilian GP Sprint Race victory ahead of Lando Norris

Lando Norris and Sergio Perez closed out the top three at the 2023 Brazilian GP Sprint Race

Max Verstappen comfortably won the 2023 Brazilian Grand Prix Sprint Race from second on the grid as he overtook Lando Norris for the lead of the event on the opening lap.

After taking the good start the reigning world champion opened up a gap to George Russell, who had also jumped Norris at the start, to control the mini-race with ease.

On Lap 4, Sergio Perez cleared Lewis Hamilton for fourth-place whilst a lap later, Mercedes cars lost another place as Norris reclaimed second back from his British counterpart, Russell.

Perez temporarily shuffled Russell back down the order as he lost fourth to the Mexican but he was too eager in his overtake and the 25-year-old reclaimed the position at the end of the back-straight into Turn 4.

But two laps later, Russell proved unable to hold back the Red Bull for much longer as Perez got the move done into Turn 1 at the second effort before he pushed on in an attempt to close up to the McLaren and his teammate for the battle for the lead.

Ricciardo, known as the honey badger for his aggression, was having a great race battling the Ferraris. He temporarily cleared Carlos Sainz before a mistake a corner later allowed the Spanish driver to slip back through and a scavenging Oscar Piastri used the chance to sneak by his fellow Australian into ninth.

Verstappen‘s race was quite comfortable but he found time to have his latest lovers’ tiff with his race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, who told him to push in the high-speed corners and bluntly pointed out that he told him to do that several laps earlier.

Mercedes struggled

Hamilton struggled in the closing stages of the race as he appeared to be battling against rear grip issues with his W14. He lost places to Charles Leclerc, who got through at Turn 4 and Yuki Tsunoda who took the place into Turn 1.

After being told to push more, the Dutchman then extended his lead from 1.7 seconds to close to four seconds to comfortably win the race as he continues to flex his dominance in the sprint formats. Can anybody at all stop him?

Norris came home in second but a distant way behind the leader, whilst Perez managed to secure his first top three in any race since the Italian GP at the start of September.

Russell was fourth, then came Leclerc, Tsunoda, Hamilton and Sainz to close out the points positions.
