Logan Sargeant delighted with Williams car: Best I’ve felt

Williams were impressive throughout the 2023 British GP with Sargeant finishing just outside the points

Logan Sargeant has feels positive with the weekend despite feeling that some mistakes cost him a chance to score his first Formula 1 points at the British Grand Prix.

The rookie finished the race in 11th, after starting from 13th. In the process, he recorded his best F1 finish to date and jumped above Nyck de Vries in the standings by virtue of the count-back system.

Williams registered more points to their 2023 tally as Alex Albon finished eighth, adding four points to their score, and extended his head-to-head record over Sargeant to 10-0.

Despite those facts looking rather disheartening on paper, the American driver is feeling positive about the race weekend.

“I think we’ve had the car in a great window all weekend, and the team’s done a great job,” Sargeant said to the media. “I feel like it was definitely the best race car I’ve felt all year, it had really good balance.

“I was comfortable in the car and the pace was strong. I had a bit of a hiccup on the first lap by losing a couple of positions, which wasn’t ideal and the safety car coming out the lap after I pitted wasn’t nice.

“But yeah, it is what it is. It was still a great race and I’m happy with what I did.”

Williams recovering

Williams have slowly clawed back the field since they were regularly finishing two laps down in 2019.

Now the Grove-based team has managed to register their third points finish of 2023 to jump ahead of Haas to be the highest team of the back cluster behind Alpine.

Williams are becoming more regular fixtures in the upper midfield and the team is sensing the chance to score more points in the future races.

“Everyone’s motivated,” Sargeant added. “We’re close to the points every weekend and Alex [Albon] is scoring them and that’s what brings so much motivation.

“All the guys are working hard behind the scenes, and as drivers we’ll keep working as hard as we can push and hopefully we can continue this form.”
