Lando Norris outlines 2023 Brazilian Grand Prix target for McLaren

Lando Norris thinks McLaren should aim high in the 2023 Brazilian GP

Lando Norris says that McLaren are feeling confident heading into the 2023 Brazilian Grand Prix despite being no match for Max Verstappen in the Sprint Race at Interlagos.

Norris had taken a surprise pole in the Sprint Shootout by beating Verstappen by 0.067 although it would be the Dutchman who would have the last laugh on Sprint Saturday by overtaking the Brit for the lead of the race as soon as the lights went out.

The McLaren also dropped behind George Russell, but by the time he cleared his compatriot, the world champion had amassed a gap that he could comfortably manage his tyres and the race with and Norris finished as a soundly-beaten runner-up.

“I mean it’s always different, but definitely good confidence,” Norris said to media. “I didn’t do any more laps than three in a row in FP1. So, we were a bit blindsided with what to expect [from the tyres].

“Of course that was our choice, but maybe weren’t best prepared for what to expect today but still to be so good was a positive sign and we’ll try and maximise that for tomorrow.

“I think we know what we’re aiming for. Probably not P1, but up there in the top three is probably our goal.”

Whilst he lost touch with Verstappen, Norris did manage to stay comfortably second ahead of Sergio Perez in the other Red Bull, indicating that the McLaren is quick enough to rival anyone but the Dutchman.

Favourable news for McLaren is also that Mercedes and Ferrari struggled for pace, suggesting that their main rivals are Aston Martin. On that front comes the bad news, Aston Martin start from third and fourth whilst McLaren line-up seventh and tenth.

When does the Brazilian GP start?

The Brazilian GP gets underway at 14:00 local time in Sao Paulo around the historic Interlagos circuit.

For American viewers that is a start time of 13:00 Eastern Daylight Time and will be broadcast live by ESPN and ABC (free-to-air).

Whilst for British audiences, the race will start at 17:00 and will be broadcast live by Sky Sports F1. Channel 4 will show highlights after the race.
