Lance Stroll aims sly dig at Alpine as Fernando Alonso footage emerges

Fernando Alonso claimed a brilliant podium finish at the 2023 Bahrain GP

Lance Stroll has trolled Fernando Alonso’s former team Alpine after the Spaniard finished the 2023 Bahrain Grand Prix on the podium.

The 41-year-old secured his 99th podium in Formula 1 at the season opener and very much enjoyed his Aston Martin which is much improved from last year.

After the race, the beaming smile was clear for all to see and grew even wider as Stroll approached him as he conducted an interview.

The microphones were able to catch the first few words of the conversation before they moved away from the reporters.

“Are you happy? Happy not to be in an Alpine?” Stroll said before their conversation became inaudible, as footage shared on Twitter revealed.

Alonso switched from Alpine to Aston Martin

Alonso was left highly frustrated by the lack of reliability his Alpine had in 2022 which saw him retire from a number of races and finish behind Esteban Ocon in the driver standings.

He chose to leave the French manufacturer for a new start and head to the Silverstone-based outfit which left Alpine searching for a new driver after the Oscar Piastri debacle.

Stroll himself enjoyed a very good evening in Bahrain as he nursed his Aston Martin to the chequered flag in sixth, ahead of George Russell in the Mercedes.

Not only was this was of his most all-around performances in his F1 career so far, but he did it without any pre-season testing after injuring his hands in a cycling accident.

Through sheer grit and determination, he was able to complete all 57 laps of the race and in an impressive time as well to further solidify Aston Martin as one of the top teams in F1 in 2023.
