Horner pinpoints where Red Bull can beat Ferrari at Miami GP

Red Bull find themselves behind Ferrari pair of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz for the 2022 Miami GP

After Max Verstappen could only qualify third at the 2022 Miami Grand Prix, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner is optimistic the team can pull things back and usurp the Ferrari pair.

Charles Leclerc stormed to pole position at the Miami International Autodrome, and was followed by his teammate Carlos Sainz, with Verstappen just behind though he pulled of his final run in Q3.

“We know we have good straight line speed,” Horner said on Sky Sports F1.

“I think the DRS will be pretty powerful here, and with all the support races some of the braking zones will open up a bit. In particular the last turn and at the end of Sector 2, there could be a couple of opportunities.

Ferrari are very strong round here [Miami] and I think strategy and bit of luck, and see what the weather does as there is a bit of rain around here tomorrow, so it could be a chaotic race.

“Pit stops are going to be crucial as no one has really done a long run, so we don’t know how the deg is on these tyres. Is a two-stop quicker than a one-stop?

“For us, it’s important to split the Ferraris as quickly as we can, because I’m sure there will be an element of team play there to try and protect the lead car.”

Differences between Red Bull and Ferrari

The Red Bull team principal is highlighted the difference between the his cars and the Ferrari, which should make for an enthralling Miami GP.

“We should have a good race car, and there are a couple of place where you will be able to overtake,” Horner continued.

“[The track] is quite brutal, and we really have a different race car to Ferrari, they are carrying a bit more downforce and are quicker in some of the corners.

“We will be a bit easier through the corners, but will be much quicker on the straights, so it’ll be a fascinating contest.”
