Ferrari top again in Singapore FP2 as Sainz edges out Leclerc

Ferrari were fastest in both Friday sessions in Singapore on the revamped Marina Bay Street Circuit.

Carlos Sainz led Ferrari to the top of the timing charts for the second consecutive session during second practice for the Singapore GP.

Sainz edged out teammate Charles Leclerc, who was fastest during FP1, to the top spot by 0.018s, ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell in third.

Fernando Alonso was improved in fourth for Aston Martin, ahead of Lewis Hamilton and the upgraded McLaren of Lando Norris.

Red Bull were once again further down the pecking order with the teams running a variety of simulations, with Max Verstappen back in eighth and Sergio Perez just ahead in seventh, as the Mexican driver complained about issues with car stability under braking.

Kevin Magnussen was ninth for Haas, with Valtteri Bottas rounding out the top 10 for Alfa Romeo on the weekend he confirmed his return to the grid with the team for 2024.

Ferrari look set to continue their strong form after finishing best of the rest at their home Italian GP behind Red Bull, despite the switch from the high-speed straights of Monza to the twisting streets of Marina Bay.

While the Scuderia have topped both sessions, other teams likely still have pace to show as they got to grips with the various changes introduced at the circuit from last season.
