Fighting words from Fernando Alonso: Aston Martin faster than Ferrari

The Spaniard is full of confidence after an impressive showing by Aston Martin in F1 pre-season testing

After impressing the many observers of the 2023 F1 test in Bahrain, Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso has claimed the team are even ahead of Ferrari when it comes to the speed of their car.

The AMR23 is radically different from its predecessor as Alonso put it though its paces at the Bahrain International Circuit ahead of the F1 2023 season opener – the 2023 Bahrain GP

Such was the nature of Aston Martin’s performance, many, including, rank Aston Martin as one of Formula 1’s front-running teams for 2023

“On the last test day, for example, we did a race simulation,” Alonso said at a promotional event. “Then we did 57 laps, the same thing we are going to do this week in Bahrain.

“We put fuel in for those 57 laps and did the full race with the full set-up, even changing tyres.

“At the same time, Ferrari were doing the same simulation as us with the same fuel, same stops and we were faster than them.”

Horner compliments Aston Martin

The pace of the Aston Martin AMR23 didn’t go unnoticed among their rivals with Red Bull boss Christian Horner highlighting their impressive test performance.

“I think they have made a big step. It looks like their car concept has moved them forward and they’re not far behind. Fernando, in particular, looks very competitive,” said the Red Bull boss.
