F1 Emilia Romagna GP 2025 Starting Grid: Piastri on pole position

Oscar Piastri claimed his third pole of the 2025 season at Imola

-

Oscar Piastri will line up first on the Emilia Romagna GP 2025 starting grid after an outstanding final effort in Q3 secured pole position for the McLaren driver.

Max Verstappen lit up the timing screens in sector one on his final run, he couldn’t match Piastri’s pace through the rest of the lap and had to settle for second. Piastri’s lap came despite a slightly scruffy final corner at Imola, but it proved good enough to secure his third pole of the 2025 season as he continues to lead McLaren’s charge in what’s becoming a standout campaign for the Woking outfit.

Behind the leading duo, George Russell secured third for Mercedes, opting for the more durable C5 medium tyre instead of the softs used by most of the field in Qualifying. Lando Norris was fourth in the second McLaren.

Fernando Alonso delivered one of his best Saturdays of the season with fifth place for Aston Martin, also using the medium compound for his final lap. Williams duo Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon impressed again in sixth and seventh, while Lance Stroll, Isack Hadjar, and Pierre Gasly round out the top ten.
