Sebastian Vettel won the fan vote for driver of the day for the second week in a row at the 2022 F1 US GP as the Aston Martin driver secured a late 8th place with a pass on Kevin Magnussen in the final few corners.

Aston Martin had looked strong a the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, and both drivers were running in the top six before Lance Stroll was forced to retire following a collision with Fernando Alonso at the safety car restart.

Vettel then went long before his second pitstop and at one point led the race, but his hopes of a top six finish vanished after a slow pitstop where he dropped back to 13th.

The German eventually went on to climb back through the pack and pass the Haas of Magnussen in tense battle on the final lap to finish 8th.

Red Bull champions

Max Verstappen was the winner at the US GP on the weekend where the team were mourning the loss of their owner and founder Dietrich Mateschitz and in line to claim the 2022 constructors’ championship.

Verstappen looked to have thrown away a clear win after a slow pitstop put him back down to 3rd behind the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, with the Mercedes taking the lead and the Dutchman forced to fight his way back to the front.

Leclerc put up a solid fight, but Verstappen eventually got past and was clear to chase down his 2021 title rival.

He then passed Hamilton and saw out the race to secure his 13th victory of the 2022 season.
