Red Bull Formula 1 driver Sergio Perez was voted F1’s Driver of the Day after claiming a mighty win at the 2022 Singapore Grand Prix.
Perez made a great start jumping pole sitter Charles Leclerc off the line. From there it was a question of managing the race, with the Mexican driver navigating a damp and greasy circuit as well as multiple safety car periods.
Ferrari’s Leclerc challenged Perez for the majority of the race until the Mexican managed to pull away during the final stage of the race. However, Perez is under investigation for two safety car procedure violations, meaning his victory is still provisional.
Leclerc’s teammate Carlos Sainz finished with McLaren duo Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo finishing fourth and fifth.
Perez displays composure in trying circumstances
The 2022 Singapore GP was marred by a series of incidents and proved to be a race of attrition with six cars failing to see the finish.
At the front of the pack, Perez, and Leclerc showed their class with the rivals opening a significant gap to third-placed Sainz.

However, Perez is under investigation for violating the safety car procedure on two different occasions, with the Ferrari team informing Leclerc over the radio that the Red Bull driver could be handed two separate five-second time penalties if found guilty.
Perez’s teammate Max Verstappen had an eventful race with the Dutchman finishing seventh after fighting his way back from dead last during the final part of the race.
Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton and George Russell had another weekend to forget with Hamilton only managing to finish ninth, while Russell finished outside the points despite claiming the fastest lap of the race.
