F1 Driver of the Day – Abu Dhabi GP 2023

Max Verstappen took yet another dominant victory in the finale of the 2023 F1 season.

Yuki Tsunoda won the fans’ vote for Driver of the Day at the season ending 2023 Abu Dhabi GP as the AlphaTauri driver crossed the line in eighth.

Tsunoda took his best-ever qualifying position of sixth for the final race of AlphaTauri team principal Franz Tost’s last outing in F1, as he also became only the second Japanese driver to lead a grand prix.

Max Verstappen cantered to a convincing win to round off a dominant season for Red Bull, with Charles Leclerc taking second after some late shenanigans as he tried to help Sergio Perez build a gap to George Russell in Ferrari’s battle for second in the constructors championship.

With Perez carrying a five-second penalty for an earlier collision with Lando Norris, Leclerc let him past to try and keep Russell at bay, but the gap wasn’t quite enough and the Mexican dropped back to fourth, with the Mercedes taking the final podium spot.

That left the Brackley-based outfit three points ahead of Ferrari to edge out second place in the 2023 constructors’ championship, taking an extra $10 million in prize money.

When does F1 return?

F1 will start again when the cars head out for preseason testing on February 21-23 in 2024, which will be held at the Bahrain International Circuit, where the season opener takes place one week later on Saturday, March 2.

The season opens with a double-header as the paddock quickly heads over to Saudi Arabia on March 9, with both races happening on Saturday due to the Muslim religious holiday of Ramadan occurring at the time.
