F1 Standings after 2024 Chinese Grand Prix

How do the 2024 Formula 1 Driver and Constructor Championship Standings look after Max Verstappen of Red Bull took victory at the Chinese GP in Shanghai

Max Verstappen expertly converted pole position into a commanding victory at the 2024 Chinese Grand Prix, leading McLaren‘s Lando Norris and his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez. Verstappen‘s fourth win in five races of 2024 further extended his lead in the F1 Driver Standings.

The race was packed with incidents, featuring a virtual safety car and two full safety car periods, but Verstappen maintained control throughout. Norris, alongside the Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, opted for a single pit stop strategy that paid off under the safety car conditions. Leclerc and Sainz managed to secure fourth and fifth places respectively.

Fernando Alonso adopted an alternative strategy, switching to soft tyres under a mid-race safety car, which required a late stop for mediums and a series of aggressive overtakes to climb from 12th to seventh. His final overtake was on McLaren‘s Oscar Piastri, finishing just ahead in a thrilling recovery.

The race also saw its share of penalties and retirements: Lance Stroll received a 10-second penalty for colliding with Daniel Ricciardo, causing Ricciardo‘s retirement. Meanwhile, Kevin Magnussen and Logan Sargeant each faced their own challenges and penalties, with Valtteri Bottas retiring due to engine issues, sparking the first safety car deployment.
