Leclerc gives verdict on Vasseur as Ferrari chases Red Bull

Charles Leclerc believes Frederic Vasseur's tenure as Ferrari team principal has been effective so far.

Now in his second year as team principal for Ferrari, Fred Vasseur has overseen some key changes for the team as it scrambles to put a dent in Red Bull’s persistent dominance, with Charles Leclerc fully backing the Frenchman in this task.

With the first two races of the 2024 Formula 1 season complete, Ferrari has certainly asserted itself the most competitive of the non-Red Bull teams.

The team has taken two podiums so far – one for Carlos Sainz and one for Leclerc – whilst Leclerc started from the front of the grid in both Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

“I think what’s really important for Fred is to have very clear ideas to help the team to choose what are the main areas in which we need to work on,” Leclerc told the media ahead of the 2024 Australian Grand Prix.

“On a race weekend, there are a thousand things that you could optimise. You obviously then need to make it clear that these are the top three things that we need to focus on, and that there are not 20 of them, in order to have all the people on board and pushing for the same thing.

“I think Fred has been very, very clear on which directions to take.”

Leclerc added that he believed Vasseur’s clear communication with the team has paid off so far. Ferrari currently sits second in the Constructors’ Championship, 38 points behind Red Bull. Crucially, however, Ferrari finds itself ahead of McLaren with a 21-point lead.

After losing out on second in the Constructors’ to Mercedes in 2023, Ferrari will look to try and extend its advantage over Mercedes during the race weekend in Melbourne.
