Carlos Sainz highlights just how far Red Bull are ahead of the F1 grid

Red Bull have wiped the floor with all competition during the 2023 F1 season

After dominating the 2023 Formula 1 season, Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz revealed that he believes Red Bull are ‘two years ahead’ of his team and the rest of the F1 field, in terms of competitiveness and development.

The statement comes in the wake of Red Bull‘s near flawless 2023 campaign, in which the Milton Keynes side have won all of the 18 races up until Singapore, where ironically, the Spaniard himself was able to topple that record.

With Red Bull being leaps and bounds ahead of the rest, Sainz believes Ferrari have a plan to compete with Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.

Red Bull are two years ahead and have a half second lead, it will not be easy to get to their level and that is why they are dominating,” Sainz said when speaking to the media at a sponsor event.

“We have no choice but to focus on ourselves, time will tell if, and when, we can catch up with Red Bull.”

Can Ferrari reach Red Bull’s level?

Ferrari, like every other team behind Red Bull, have been strangers to victory throughout this 2023 F1 season, implementing plenty of upgrades throughout certain race weekends, yet unable to mount any real challenge to Christian Horner‘s team.

Sainz also shared his optimism towards his team’s development, as the Maranello side fight to bring themselves back to the top of F1.

“I am optimistic,” Sainz continued. “If McLaren can make such an important step, I am sure that a team like Ferrari are also be able to do it.

“We know what we need to work on and what we need to improve.”

Ferrari, throughout their 2023 season, have struggled to match Red Bull in almost every regard, and with the latter now confirmed as 2023 constructors’ champions.
