Carlos Sainz hails new Ferrari upgrades for Spanish GP

The Scuderia have changed their direction with their latest raft of updates according to the hometown hero Sainz

    -

Ferrari are changing the direction of their 2023 Formula 1 car from the Spanish Grand Prix onwards, according to Carlos Sainz, and the Spaniard is positive about the change.

So far this season, both Sainz and teammate Charles Leclerc have been unhappy with the unpredictable nature of the car in race trim, causing them to score just one podium in six races.

The Prancing Horse have realised that and the new parts on the car for the Barcelona event, Sainz’s home race, are thought to change those issues.

“We have an upgrade coming but we can’t tell yet,” Sainz told select members of the press, including Total-Motorsport.com, ahead of the Spanish GP.

“We’re going down a new direction which we believe is now the right path for us to develop this car, making it more driveable and more consistent in the race because we know that’s our main weakness.”

    Change of scenery?

There have been reports suggesting that Madrid could host an F1 race as early as 2024 which could see the future of the race in Barcelona threatened.

Sainz is a Madrid native and has been in talks with the folks leading the project to bring a street race to the Spanish capital but he is still in the dark about some aspects of the proposed event and where that leaves the Catalan-based event.

“I’ve heard all about the project,” Sainz added. “We’ve been coming to Barcelona for many, many years and I’ve yet to get the full details from the Madrid project and what they’re planning to do there.”
